Japan Winter Trip : A pictorial itinerary

Assalamualaikum.

Kalau ad info berulang pun terimalah seadanya ya. Hope you enjoy it!

Day 0 : KUL - NRT

Pilih seat belah kiri untuk dapatkan view Fuji. Tapi time pergi tak nampak apa. Kabus mungkin. Bukan rezeki.

Day 1 : Shinjuku - Shibuya - Harajuku

Dia ikut waktu bukan hari.

Godzilla's Head, Shinjuku.
.
Not far from Coco Curry Halal Ichibanya and Masjid Al-Ikhlas. We arrived at different Coco Curry then we realized it's not halal (yellow color signboard/banner) as they mentioned in fb group Road to Japan that the halal one was green in color. Do join that group for more info on Japan k. Thanks @hangdhamin for recommending RTJ. Haha

Haha. Located in Shinjuku, don't forget to pay a visit to Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building to get a glimpse of Tokyo. Free entrance to 45th floor for both South and North Tower.

Shibuya Crossing, Tokyo
The busiest view taken from indoor walkway of Shibuya Station.
.
Ada new attraction berdekatan sini iaitu Shibuya Scramble Square. Entrance fee dalam 1000 yen kot. Ke 2000 yen. Nanti check lah ek. Try p time matahari terbenam serius lawa. Kami kedekut jadi tak pergi pastu rasa menyesal. Hahaha.

Dekat dengan crossing ni ada Hachiko Statue. Bolehlah bergambar juga.

The Old Harajuku Station will be demolished as the new building is expected to open in time for Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics. If you plan to go for shopping at Takeshita Street and visit nearby shrine/temple, do not forget to come here too k.

Day 2 : Asakusa - Ueno - Akihabara

Pulang dengan hampa lantas kami playing tourist at Sensoji Temple. Near to Nakamise Shopping Street and Kaminarimon Gate. Time ni hujan jadi mood sis cm spoil sikit lol. Kedai-kedai depan temple tu quite menarik tapi sebab ramai orang sis tak jenguk pun.

Spicy Miso in Naritaya Halal Asakusa nearby. Chicken Bowl pun sedap. They even had prayer space that can accommodate one person at one time too!

Ni pun lokasi shopping kegemaran rakyat Malaysia iaitu Ameyoko Street, Ueno. Depan kedai Chicken Man ni ad jual sovenir murah depa kata.

Selalu kat Ueno ni orang pakat cari kasut-kasut berjenama. Depa juai macam tu je k tepi jalan.

Akihabara Electronic Town. Shopping place lagi. If you are looking for halal bento, there is one 7 eleven branch at this street that offers the product. Dari Ueno kami jalan kaki ja p sini. Kalau tak minat electronic boleh skip ja. Kami cari Muji sebab kami dah p Muji di Ueno tapi kami tak jumpa barang yang dicari. Hahaha.

The iconic Tokyo Tower.
.
We explored most attraction places using Tokyo Subway Pass 48 hours that costs us around 1,200 yen per card. Kinda useful for first timer as you have unlimited usage of Tokyo subway during that period of time and thanks to google maps, we survived the tokyo subway lines. Do expect to do lots of walking with neverending stairs as the subway station mostly located underground.

Day 3 : Disneysea and Odaiba

Hello Disneysea! We chose Disneysea instead of Disneyland because it's the only one in the world plus the rides more suitable for adults they said. Haha I don't know lah. Not so many roller coaster ride but we managed to try all the rides that required fast pass except Raging Spirits sebab tutup and Nemo sebab tak sempat. Satu je fast pass dapat collect sebab fast pass lain banyak dah habis jadi beratur lah macam biasa.

Rides yang wajib cuba adalah Tower of Terror. Barisan panjang ok.
.
Where to pray?
Just go to the entrance and they will show you the quiet room outside the park. They'll put stamp on your hand and then you can enter back the park after that. There was an area outside the quiet room if you wish to had your bekal or kembara meals too.

We missed the Gundam Show because after we performed our prayer, we went back inside the park and queuing up to two hours for new ride Soaring : Fantastic Flight in Disneysea.
.
Since it's already dark when we arrived here, hence the Gundam picture from the back thanks to the lighting from the LED advertisement board 😂.
.
Other nearby attractions - Rainbow Bridge, Fuji TV Building and unfortunately Statue of Liberty was under renovation. Adik sorang nak pergi tapi lagi dua orang ni tak berminat jadi skip. haha.
.
There was Doraemon Merchandise Store and Muslim Friendly Restaurant - Sojibo inside the Tokyo Diver City. We tried cold soba but hot soba was more delicious in winter. Hee.
.
Tokyo Diver City, Odaiba

Day 4 : Gala Yuzawa and Giant Ghibli's Clock

En route to Gala Yuzawa. Kami naik dari Ueno Station sebab dekat lagi dari airbnb.

Why Gala Yuzawa?
.
Because little sister (not so little btw) wants to play in the snow. TWP and JR Pass holder can get discounted price for activities.
.
Costs us 3,300 yen/pax for playing in the snow package - include return gondola ride, gloves, boots and sled rental.
.
Locker rental : 1000 yen
.
There are other activities too such as snow mobile, kanjiki, ski for beginner etc. As long you have enough money no need to worry 😂

Bell of Love Observatory Deck.
.
Add another 1000 yen per pax, and you can have return skylift ride to reach here.
.
So basically, from shinkasen station - choose the package you want at the counter (main building), take gondola to the base lah kot lebih kurang. Main activities (snow mobile, kanjiki, sledding etc) mostly dekat sini. If you wish to go to the upper level, take skylift pula. Usually skylift is for skier and snowboarder, but they have entrance for non skier too.
.
Kesimpulan, pilih pakej siap-siap dari bawah sebab sampai atas tak dapat add on dah.

The skylift ride from observatory deck to the base (sukati je bagi nama) 😂. Ni jenis kaki bergantung itu.

Gondola ride from the base to the main building where the shinkasen station located. Ni style kereta kabel.
.
The staff allowed us to pray at family changing room (level 3F) in the main building. No toilet there, therefore take wudhu beforehand or else just bring your own water spray k.
.
Enjoy the view!

We want to try our luck buying the Ghibli Museum ticket in Tokyo, for the price there much more cheaper. Of course no luck on our side as people usually bought the ticket one month earlier besides the slot per day is limited. So we went to Giant Ghibli's Clock instead to watch the show.

Tokyo Skytree.
.
Bahaya tempat ni sebab ada Ghibli Studios merchandise store kat sini. We don't mind not going up to the observatory since we were happy to spend our time (and money too) here 🙊.

Day 5 : Kawaguchiko

Konnichiwa Kawaguchiko.
.
Took us two hours train ride from Shinjuku Station and arrived here around noon. Our journey still covered by TWP since we can use it 3 consecutive days.
.
Straight away went to our accommodation though we can put our backpack first in the locker but actually it will be better to find the hostel first. Dah gelap nanti lagi susah nak cari gitu. Jalan pun licin.

How to get around?
.
You can take omni bus that covered three main lines (blue, red and green). The price was 1500 yen/pax and valid for two days for all lines. You can find the ticket counter inside the Kawaguchiko station and if you don't want to buy the pass, you can still ride the bus but have to pay the normal fare based on where you get on and get off.
.
We planned to cover the blue line (paling jauh) on the day we arrived but kinda confusing so we spent most of our time in the bus. Sedikit rugi dan ralat juga but the view still lumayan kan (pujuk hati).
.
Lake Saiko

Day 6 : Kawaguchiko

Breakfast with Fuji View😍 not to mention the view from rooftop is magnificient too.
.
We booked this place through booking.com Don't forget to use shopback as well. They offered tatami style bedroom and do expect to do lots of walking k as the place located almost 1.5km from Kawaguchiko Station.
.
We had an amazing stay here. The kitchen and common room is spacious with free brewed coffee every morning. The staff even allowed us a room to pray before check in even after we checked out. Thank you @kshousefujiview for having us!

Start the day by taking train from Kawaguchiko station to Shimoyoshida station, walked around 10 minutes and add another 10-15 minutes hiking with total of 400 steps to reach the pagoda.
.
Other than train, you can also ride Mt Fuji World Heritage Loop bus to reach the nearest stop. Almost the same like omni bus but the price (1,050 yen for adult) and coverage area is a bit different. One of the stop is Oshino Hakkai. Still, everything depends on your itinerary and places of interests too.
.
Chureito Pagoda

Just so you know, Fujikyu or Fuji-Q Highland's roller coaster have been listed in the Guinness World of Records.
.
There were four main roller coasters here and since we have limited time, we chose the least thrilled kot among them but still it can accelerate up to 180km/hour! Gila laju masa launching but worth sangat because nothing can beats the world's largest loop with Fuji view before your eyes!
.
Free entrance to the park. Just go to the counter and they'll give you the entrance ticket.
.
You can buy one day pass or you can also pay per ride. For Dodonpa, the one that we tried costs us 1500 yen per ride. If you have enough time you can spend one whole day here. The park itselt quite big with Naruto themed, Thomas Land and many others attraction too.
.
Fujikyu Highland.
.
Next wishlist : the steepest roller coaster maybe

From Fujikyu, we went back to Kawaguchiko. Actually omni bus blue line lalu je dekat Fujikyu tapi sebab timing tak kena jadi kami balik naik train sahaja dan sambung balik naik omni bus dari Kawaguchiko.
.
This time we took green line to stop no 48 - Saiko Iyashi no Sato Nenba.
.
We pay a visit to this stall yang famous juga among Malaysian. Ayam goreng dia sedap, epal pun manis. Uncle ni pun baik sangat siap bawa pergi kaunter tiket, bagi free tea and coklat masa kami datang dan masa kami tunggu bas nak balik.
.
.
Saiko Iyashi no Sato Nenba

Yours truly

Saiko Iyashi no Sato Nenba is an open air museum and traditional craft village where people can learn about the culture and try out and purchase different local handicrafts (credit to google as I left behind the pamphlet)
.
You can get a glimpse of Mount Fuji too from here. Try search kat instagram and look at other's pictures. Kami sampai dah nak dekat gelap but we were blessed with snowfall.
.
Entrance fee : 350 yen/pax
Kimono/Samurai Rental at House No 12 : 1000 yen
.

Day 7 : Kawaguchiko - Takayama

Thought of renting bicycle at first. Non stop snowing since last night so we just chilling indoors.
.
It's time to bid good bye to fujisan. Thank you for the memories. You've been good to us. Till we meet again! Thanks K's House for helping us book the taxi. It costs us around 1500 yen per taxi for 5 pax.
.
Regards,
Ajiraa

View taken at rest area.
.
Bus ride Kawaguchiko - Takayama. Almost 5 hours journey. 5,000 yen per pax one way. Ke Takayama sebab kami nak Shirakawa-go!

Day 8 : Takayama - Shirakawa go - Takayama

Miyagawa Morning Market.
.
We came here twice to find Takayama Pudding but the seller tak buka kedai on the first morning and when we came the next day, his shop has not opened yet 😂. There were many pudding shops too but they were not the one that we were looking for. Not our rizq this time. End up we ate pudding Meiji je. Tu pun susah juga nak jumpa kat convenience store.
.
Takayama, Gifu

Takayama

Beautifully preserved.

Looking over Takayama with a quick stop at Shorenji Temple.
.
This is the site where Takayama Castle was developed into a park. More castle ruins around this park but we didn't explore them.
.
Shiroyama Park, Takayama

This is a popular sightseeing spot for cherry blossom. I personally love Takayama. Tenang. Near to JR line and bus terminal too.
.
Nakabashi Bridge

Realiti

Afternoon Shirakawago Tour by J hoppers - 4500 yen per pax.

Terima kasih juniors belanja itinerari. Maaf tak dapat belanja gambar Shirakawago bersalji. Warm winter tahun ni. Seminggu lepas kami balik baru salji turun meliputi.
.
Melihat Shirakawago bersalji adalah wishlist kami sebenarnya.
.
And He is the best of planners.
.

World Heritage Gassho zukuri houses (a house built of wooden beams combined to form a steep thatched roof that resembles two hands together).
.
You can stay in the guesthouse in this village with costs around 10,000 yen per night if I'm not mistaken (~RM400) as told by our guide.
.

Day 9 : Takayama - Osaka

Southbound. Till then, Takayama.
.
Another 5 hours ++ bus ride
Takayama-Osaka 5000 yen/pax/way

Patut gerak tengah hari tapi tapi kami cancel tiket lama dan beli tiket baru gerak pukul 9 pagi. At least sampai Osaka cerah sikit tak meraban nak cari airbnb gitu. Kami ambil Nouhi Bus.

Shinsekai is the place to experience the Osaka of old, and Tsutenkaku Tower is the defining landmark of the area (Credit to JNTO).
.
Sebenarnya jalan-jalan cari Daiso dan Don Quijote, last-last sampai sini since tak jauh mana pun jalan kaki dari airbnb.
.
Ada observation deck kat atas tapi kami tak naik. 500 yen tak silap entrance fee tapi kalau ada Osaka Amazing Pass (OAP), it's free, tapi kena tengok timing juga tak silap kami. Kami study juga pasal OAP tapi end up tak pakai sebab pass tinggal kt airbnb Tokyo haha. Dah contact host pun tak jumpa.

Day 10 : Universal Studios Japan

Spend one whole day in Universal Studios Japan! Glad that we get to try those famous rides - Hollywood Dream - The Ride, The Flying Dinosour and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. Not once but twice! Janggal kejap dengar Harry Potter cakap Jepun 😂. Ada juga ride yang tutup but it's ok. Attack of Titan is amazing too! Berbaloi juga beratur dekat 90 minit rasanya. Jangan lupa tengok show kat Hogwarts. Siriusly magical as always.
.
Where to pray?
Just go to guest services and in our case they allowed us to use the room next door. Muslim friendly menu also available outside the park at Red Lobster Restaurant. Dekat luar USJ ni pun ada Hard Rock Shop.
.
Operating hours differ by date. Ticket price pun.
.
Universal Studios Japan, Osaka

Day 11 : Day trip to Kyoto

You do the math k. Haha. Rasa berulang kali dah sis guna ayat ni.

Arashiyama Bamboo Forest

Kimono Forest is a collection of gorgeous cylinder-shaped pillars framing the lane way to Randen tram station.
.
Arashiyama Kimono Forest, Kyoto

Fushimi Inari. Ini gambar dekat mini gate tak silap. Kalau baca blog banyak orang kata datang waktu pagi. Kami datang ni time tenga hari. Nak kata tak ramai orang tak juga. Tapi nak bergambar quite ok juga. Sorok-sorok sikit orang belakangnya.

.
Kiyomizudera, Kyoto

Sorry gambar blur sikit. Tapi view dari atas memang menawan. Cuma memang kena gigih berjalan. Almost 2km kot dari stesen subway terdekat kalau tak silap. Mendaki perjalanannya yang pasti. Tapi banyak kedai menarik. Poskad pun kami beli kat sini ja.

Starbucks Tatami. .

Tapi kami buat kerja banyak kali p bandar dulu makan-makan ramen baru patah sini balik bakar lemak.
.
Yasaka Pagoda, the last remnant of Hokanji Temple, is one of the most visible and recognizable landmarks in the Higashiyama District - a great place to experience traditional old Kyoto.
.
Yasaka Pagoda, Kyoto.

Back to Osaka.
.
The Glico running man is one of the most well known landmarks in Osaka. This huge brightly lit sign has glowed over the Dotombori canal in Osaka's premier shopping and entertainment district for more than 80 years. The running man advertises Glico, the manufacturer of one of Asia's most famous confectionery companies.
.
Dotonburi, Osaka.

Day 12 : Osaka

One of the best way to enjoy Osaka is by using Osaka Amazing Pass (OAP). It is a set of one card pass (unlimited times of rides for 1 day or 2 days) with barcode for entering free facilities for about 40 tourist spots input on it.
.
We bought one day OAP from Klook but we left it in Tokyo so no pass for today 😂
.
So we decided to start late, prioritize our needs (lol) and try to find attractions with free entrance. Since one day OAP costs around 2700 yen, we will be happy if our costs for today cheaper than that. Takdak lah ralat sangat takdak pass.
.
Abeno Harukas (free entry to 16th and 17th floor observatory).

Osaka Castle, or “Osaka-jo” in Japanese, is certainly one of the most famous landmarks in Japan, and for good reason. This five-story castle is one of the most visually spectacular creations in the country, with a history that dates back almost 450 years!
.
Entrance fee : 600 yen. If you have OAP, it's free! Plus you can enjoy Osaka-jo Gozabune Boat using OAP too.
.
Osaka Castle, Osaka.

Plum (ume) blossoms. Not cherry (sakura) blossoms.
.
The plum is associated with the start of spring, because plum blossoms are some of the first blossoms to open during the year. In most areas of Japan, including Tokyo, they typically flower in February and March. The event is celebrated with plum festivals (ume matsuri) in public parks, shrines and temples across the country (japan-guide.com)
.
Plum Garden, Osaka Castle.

Night view from the Ferris Wheel.
.
One of Umeda’s best known landmarks, HEP FIVE is essentially a shopping mall that just happens to have a huge red Ferris wheel attached to its roof. So we start the ride from level 7 actually 😂. Nak pindah2 tempat pun hati2.
.
Entrance fee : 600 yen. Free if you have OAP.
.
HEP Five Ferris Wheel.

The feast after the ferris wheel ride. This eatery is famous for its chicken broth. Choose and buy the food from the vending machine, give the ticket/receipt to the kitchen/staff and let's dig in!
.
Ayam Ya Namba Osaka.

Day 13 : Kobe and going back home

Hello Kobe.

The Tetsujin 28 Statue in Kobe is an amazing public sculpture and monument symbolizing the rebirth of the city of Kobe after the Hanshin Earthquake in 1995. Finished in 2009, this statue is located in Wakamatsu Park close to Shin-Nagata station on the JR Kobe Line. Standing at an impressive 18 meters high, the statue is one of many life sized giant robot works across Japan, including the Gundam in Odaiba, Tokyo. The Tetsujin robot was originally created in the 1960's by Mitsuteru Yokoyama, a manga artist born in Kobe (en.japantravel.com)
.
Gigantor Tetsujin 28, Kobe.
.
Our journey today powered by KTP.

Port of Kobe Earthquake Memorial Park was constructed as a reminder of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in 1995.
.
The memorial park is meant to be evidence of the calamitous earthquake, preserving part of Meriken Park as it was immediately after the severe quake.
.
40,071 casualties
247,486 houses and buildings destroyed
444,900 households affected
.
Port of Kobe Earthquake Memorial Park

Kobe Port Tower. Ada observatory. Tak pasti berapa harga entrance fee.
.
.
Kobe Port Tower, Kobe.

Bukan semua orang ke masjid itu baik, tetapi masjid lah tempat berkumpul orang baik-baik
(quoted from fb).
.
Alhamdulillah for the opportunity to visit and pray at Japan's first and oldest mosque. You can reach here by using Kobe Loop Bus or you can walk (1-2km) from the nearest train station.
.
Since the establishment, this mosque had survived major historical events - confistication by Imperial Japanese Navy (1943), bombing of Kobe in World War II (1945) and Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake (1995) - source Halal Media Japan.
.
Kobe Mosque, Kobe

.
If you stay in Shin Imamiya, don't forget to stop by at this particular baggage storage. Satu beg besar baru 100 yen banding guna coin locker range harga 400-700 yen.
.
Bagus pakcik ni ada sediakan tempat solat tapi kami solat di airport sebab nak kejar train. Surau kat Kansai airport letaknya di tingkat 3 kawasan check in itu (turun pakai tangga), bukan belah dalam lepas xray imigresen segala.
.
Terima kasih kepada group Fb Road to Japan. Join this group and you'll know more.
.

Sending postcards from Japan will cost you 100 yen for postcard (price may differ depends on design and material) and 70 yen for stamp.
.
You can buy stamp from convenience store actually. Do mention the exact value of the stamp. Since we did not know the costs and they also got confused when you mentioned for international bla bla, we were glad to find one post office, asked them the price and then voila.
.
13 days in Japan.
Arigatou gozaimasu.
You'll be missed!

Terima kasih kerana membaca sampai habis!
